SAY YES TO Digital Mamography

Dee Inman

Cancer survivor and WBMRC Auxiliary President

Having a sister who is a breast cancer survivor I knew the importance of having my yearly mammogram. As diligent as I was it did not prevent my doctor from detecting a mass nine years ago. After an ultrasound, mammogram and needle biopsy I was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. The day after my lumpectomy was performed my 10 month old granddaughter was diagnosed with a Stage IV Nueroblastoma; a childhood cancer. As I was still processing all of this my mother was diagnosed, two weeks later, with colon cancer.

Dee InmanPeople often ask me how I was able to cope with Sydney’s cancer diagnosis and mine at the same time. My priority was to deal with my cancer, get it out of the way, so I could be strong for my daughter Tami, Sydney’s mother. I’m sad to say that my granddaughter Sydney passed away when I was receiving my third session of chemo.

After completing my chemotherapy I received radiation treatment and I’m now a nine year survivor. If I had not received my yearly mammograms who knows if I would have caught my breast cancer in time. I am constantly reminding my five sisters, other family members and friends to schedule their yearly mammograms and do their monthly self breast exams.

I am proud to be a part of the Cowgirls Wear Pink campaign and to assist with bringing this state-of-the-art technology to our area. My family and I also support finding a cure for cancer by joining together every summer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We want to help bring hope to the younger generations so they do not have to live through a cancer diagnosis.
