SAY YES TO Digital Mamography

Most women cringe at the thought of getting a mammogram. For some, getting a mammogram is not optional. Those of us who are at high risk, due to a family history of breast cancer, cannot afford the luxury of shrugging a mammogram off. My Mom, Earleen Fox, felt a lump in her breast but the fear of the unknown made her choose not to speak up. Unfortunately, her worst fear came true and she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Having someone that close to you battle cancer, and experience the knowledge that you could have detected it sooner, makes a mammogram look like a piece of cake. I will gladly take the fifteen minutes or so of embarrassment over years of battling cancer. With the advances in technology, the digital mammography system will detect breast cancer more efficiently in certain groups of women, and allow if needed, faster response time to seek medical treatment.
Right now, the closest location to receive a digital mammogram is in Bay City. We desperately need this technology in West Branch. Not only will it save time, gas money, a day off work, but it will also be a more comfortable mammogram and the women of our area deserve that. I could not save my Mom’s life, but through awareness, education and early detection I hope to save mine. Please support the digital mammography campaign and join me in honoring all the women who receive their yearly mammograms.
